Zippy expands to Chile and Georgia

Zippy has expanded its international presence to Chile and Georgia, opening its first stores in each country, in the third quarter of 2014.

Latin American expansion

These latest openings in Chile allow us to expand our presence within a new market and is one more step in the progressive boost to Sonae's revenues and the assertion of its position as a multinational company, with exposure to diversified markets in different phases of economic development.”

Reinforcing presence in Caucasus region 

The new Zippy store is in Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia and its largest city, and has an area of over 200 square metres in the UTT Mall. The store offers clothing, footwear and accessories for babies and children, adapted to the local climate, as well as childcare items.

Miguel Osório, Sonae SR’s board director acting as head of Zippy said, "Sonae’s development strategy looks to make use of distinctive aspects of our brands across the world, leveraging expansion on partnerships, franchising agreements and exports. Our entry into Georgia is another important step in that strategy as it allows us to increase our activities in the Caucasus region.”

At the end of the first nine months of 2014, Zippy had a total of 119 stores across the globe, of which 37 were in Portugal and 80 in international markets. After entering Chile and Georgia, the Zippy store network is now in 19 countries through its own stores and franchising units, including Portugal, Spain, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Chile, Egypt, Georgia, Jordan, Lebanon, Malta, Morocco, Qatar, the Dominican Republic, St. Maarten, the United States of America, and Venezuela.

Wholesale worldwide

Zippy’s international presence also includes wholesale activities and its presence in renowned department stores, specifically via store-in-store formats. In the first nine months of 2014, Zippy was present in 15 countries across the world through wholesale and store-in-store models.
